6 Reasons To Watch Phineas And Ferb
This picspam is super image-heavy!!!
So, uh, I've been sort of flapping my arms about this show to my flist and Tumblr peeps for the past few weeks or so. I'd only initially watched one or two episodes and hadn't been interested in it but a few of my younger family members insisted on marathoning episodes on my laptop some time back and I realized it was a great show. Since Avatar: the Last Airbender ended, I've felt an emptiness in my cartoon-loving soul that none of the current generation of shows seemed to fill but this show gives me so much hope! It's sort of like what you get when you mix the lulzy scientific experiments of Dexter's Laboratory with the bad puns of SpongeBob Squarepants but then gave the show the heart and soul of Hey Arnold!. It has a lovely mix of everything! The makers worked on Rocko's Modern World and Family Guy and they've gone out of their way to add in things that would go over kids' heads but would make adults crack up. I figured I'd make Reasons to.. picspam for it because more people should be aware of the comedy gold here! :D

So, if you are interested in checking out this show but don't have Disney Channel/a TV/the time, you should know that you can watch pretty much every episode online (the majority in lovely HD quality) at a certain hella popular video website. Each episode is about 10 minutes. IT'S ADDICTING.

"Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!"
Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher are step-brothers living in suburban Danville who have nothing to do during their summer vacation but they're not quite content to just laze around so they build a rollercoaster in their backyard. Or put together the greatest miniature golf course ever, engrave their faces onto a passing comet with a laser, set up a chariot race across town, build robots of themselves to tackle multiple projects at once, get hired to direct a film in Danville, open a circus starring their friends, build the biggest lawn bowling/pinball game ever, and repair the unfinished time machine in local museum. As you see from this limited sample, they've got a lot of choices in ways to spend the best summer days ever but when it comes to picking the rights things, Phineas is your guy! He'll figure out the perfect solution to any problem they face and, with Ferb's mechanical genius, they manage to get everything they want by the end of the day and entertain all of their friends and family in the process.
2. Ferb's Lines
Oh Ferb. He's the laconic, British, technological genius half of our duo but that doesn't mean that he's shy or unpopular or awkward at all. He's just a man of action! However, since he usually averages about one or two lines per episode, his quotes tend to be poignant, random, hilarious, or all of the above and the effect would be totally lost if any other character had said the same thing instead. It's a bit hard to demonstrate Ferb's hilarity here when much of what he says tends to be context-driven in any particular episode but I hope these selected quotes give you an idea of Ferb Fletcher.
Phineas: Enjoy it while you can, Candace. Fame is fleeting.
Ferb: But the Internet is forever.
Phineas: Yeah, we're inside Candace's stomach.
Ferb: That's creepy on so many levels.
Ferb: Well, don't just stand there, kiss her!
Phineas: I still can't believe we built that submarine quicker than usual!
Ferb: Yes, it usually takes us at least a montage.
Phineas: Candace, we don't do this to compete. We do it for fun.
Ferb: And for the ladies. Rrrow!

Candace Flynn is the authoritative older sister to Phineas and Ferb and, haha, I love her a lot, okay? For one, she's voiced by Ashley Tisdale, who is perfect for this role. And, for another, I think the way that she's presented makes her different from other cartoon sisters and teenagers I've seen. Even though she can be OTT and spazzy, she never goes into Vicky The Babysitter territory and, when her brothers go through hijinks to help her out, it really makes for sweet moments in this show. Also, she has the greatest biffle in Stacy Hirano and her crush on one Jeremy Johnson never ceases to be adorable.
4. Perry vs. Dr. Doofenshmirtz
"Ah, Perry the Platypus. Your timing is impeccable. And by "impeccable," I mean completely peccable!"
At the Flynn-Fletcher residence, Perry the Platypus is the quiet, unobtrusive household pet who doesn't really do much... but it's really his cover for being the perpetually deadpanning Agent P, sworn nemesis of one evil Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Agent P is responsible for checking out Doofenshmirtz's activities and keeping the Doof from succeeding at his evil machinations. If you think that this sideplot is totally random, let me assure you that it's better than it sounds! The Doofenshmirtz side-plot usually ends up converging with the Phineas-Ferb plotline to give us lulzy conclusions to episodes and I have grown to love it.
5. The Songs OMG THE SONGS
What can I say? Most episodes have at least one of these musical moments. They are catchy and awesome and will get stuck in your head when you least expect it! Here are some of my personal favorites.
