What I like to do is see how someone might manage two very different roles, especially if one of those roles is for a character in a period piece. So, this picspam is going to contrast the period and modern roles of 20 actors/actresses from various countries. Although the costumes and hair immediately come to mind, I also tried to look at other aspects, such as cultural norms and body language, that might have required the actor/actress to approach the roles differently. Hope you enjoy!

Growing up during the Disney Renaissance was the best and rewatching all the VHS cassettes and Sing-Along versions has given me a lot to appreciate about singing animals and romantic interludes. So, for the current [livejournal.com profile] picspammy challenge, I'm going to list my personal favorite musical moments (that are not really ranked in any way; they're in order of film release here).

This is a picspam for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon's current celebration of female characters. I decided to make a picspam for a small selection of my favorite non-English speaking female characters ("non-English speaking" here meaning that they primarily speak in another language since some of these characters may codeswitch or speak occasional sentences in English). I've hopefully kept the spoilers to a minimum in case you want to check any of these out. :) I know that I definitely need to diversify my exposure to non-English media and I hope that I can find and add more awesome ladies in the future!

I think this picspam really took me back, even more than the last one with the movies. I know I tend to talk about "old school" shows but I rather enjoyed TV in the 2000's. It's when I started watching "serious" shows. :D I may not be actively keeping up with all of these shows (lol Heroes) but I remember being excited to watch them at one time or another and, for that, they hold a special place in my heart.

Alt-text will have the name and starting year of each show. :D

This past decade (2000-2009) is the decade that I grew up and matured in and, while it has been a bumpy ride, it's also been a time of discovery for me. [livejournal.com profile] picspammy's new challenge is to reflect on this past decade so I'm making picspams about the movies and TV shows that I've grown in love (and sometimes grown out of love) with. I'm breaking it up into two picspams for my own sanity so this one will be the movies I've enjoyed in this past decade, arrange first by year of release and then by alphabetical order (if it was a series of movies, I just tried to pick one good representative picture from the bunch). You can find the title and year of each by hovering over for the alt-text. Feel free to remark upon my weird taste. :P

For [livejournal.com profile] picspammy's October challenge: Türkisch für Anfänger (Turkish for Beginners) is a German comedy about a German-Turkish family that deals with adolescence and culture clash. Lena Schneider is very displeased when her mom decides to move in with her Turkish boyfriend, Metin, and his teenage children, the macho Cem and the very religious Yağmur. My German teacher actually introduced this show to my class while we were learning the words for family members and we all liked it instantly. Unfortunately, the DVDs don't seem to have English subtitle options and I can't find fansubs for anything past the pilot so I'm sort of watching the rest of the episodes raw. I hope they come out with an English subtitled version eventually because I'd love to understand all the dialogue instead of just bits and pieces!

For the October [livejournal.com profile] picspammy challenge:
I think most of my flisters are sort of aware that I have a certain fondness for marine animals because they are undoubtedly cool. I love learning about them and I really enjoy the visuals as well. :D I They can be so diverse in appearance and habits, ranging from bizarre to elegant, from adorable to terrifying, from comedic to graceful. They never fail to amaze me. They can be highly intelligent and specialized organisms and they provide many an insight on our own nature and its origins. They are just plain awesome. I've been collecting many pictures on my hard drive but this picspam finally lets me put them to use. XD

Yeah, this is yet another picspam for [livejournal.com profile] picspammy. :P This time, I'm picspamming what is perhaps one of my all-time favorite Indian movie songs: "Pachai Nirame" from the Tamil movie Alaipayuthey. The reason it is particularly apt for the "Color Focus" challenge is that it is actually a song about colors. :D The lyrics of the song has the male lead character comparing his love interest to the many colors of nature and the cool thing is that you don't have to know anything Tamil at all to understand what color the song is talking about at any particular moment since the visuals help you out. :D

Even you are colourful )

Capital Scandal is a Korean drama that takes place in the 1930's, when Japan was occupying Korea. It revolves around a teacher/bookshop owner who wants to fight for Korea's freedom and the apathetic playboy of Seoul who tries to woo her to win a bet with his friends (she is is not easily moved by his gestures). It is hilarious and awesome and easily one of my all-time favorite Asian dramas so far! The show has very colorful costumes and set designs so I think it would easily fit the bill for the Color Focus challenge at [livejournal.com profile] picspammy. Hope you enjoy!

So the new challenge at [livejournal.com profile] picspammy is Color Focus, which looks like lots of fun and I sort of have a couple picspams in mind for this. I managed to finish this particular picspam quickly so I'm posting it now. :P

If there is no happy ending, it means that the film is not done yet. )

This for the current challenge at [livejournal.com profile] picspammy: Scenes and Sequences. I decided to picspam one of my recent favorite scenes from Jodhaa-Akbar and if you check out the picspam, I think you can figure out why. ;)
