For [livejournal.com profile] picspammy's October challenge: Türkisch für Anfänger (Turkish for Beginners) is a German comedy about a German-Turkish family that deals with adolescence and culture clash. Lena Schneider is very displeased when her mom decides to move in with her Turkish boyfriend, Metin, and his teenage children, the macho Cem and the very religious Yağmur. My German teacher actually introduced this show to my class while we were learning the words for family members and we all liked it instantly. Unfortunately, the DVDs don't seem to have English subtitle options and I can't find fansubs for anything past the pilot so I'm sort of watching the rest of the episodes raw. I hope they come out with an English subtitled version eventually because I'd love to understand all the dialogue instead of just bits and pieces!

- If you want to check out this episode, the entire pilot is up and English-subtitled on Youtube in three parts:

Wow, I actually watched part of the first season on my class's trip to Germany this year! I'm really pleased that someone else knows about it because even the German family I stayed with wasn't familiar with it.

And I completely agree about the English subtitles. My friend and I were trying to translate the dialogue, but we really only got the gist of what they were saying. There were entire subplots that took us a long time to understand. :)

Anyway, great picspam! This show really is super adorable.
